Ultimate Interactive Sculpture

When Ira Sherman talks about the  mechanics of negotiating, he really means the mechanics.

The Denver artist is the creator of the Arbitrator,  a pneumatic-powered steel sculpture that prevents
people who don't see eye to eye from looking anywhere else.

At the start of negotiations, flexible joints loosely connect the harnesses, shown above.  As the talks
wear on, the joints begin to stiffen.  Meanwhile, fingertip skin sensors, like those used in lie detectors,
monitor the sincerity of promises.

"It literally lock both parties into binding arbitration," says Sherman.
